conformity. the science of going nowhere.

good to know

First of all, I would like to thank my new subscribers and all those who in one way or another, interact with this blog.

I really do appreciate.

And let me just remind you that, sometimes, I’d be inspired to share some great thoughts but some other times, I’d just do the average.

Bear with me when you see the later happen. I’m only a human, even though my aim is to share the best thoughts on a number of subjects including, business + entrepreneurship, marketing, writing and personal development.

Now, today in this post, I’m going to share…

  1. thoughts on why living in conformity isn’t the reason we came to this life in the first place
  2. and that to be ourselves is the primary occupation as it’s the clear way to contribute to human progress and be rewarded well as a result

So, are you ready?

well, let’s do this

When Steve Jobs introduced ‘Think Different’ for Apple, he knew that to ‘think like everyone else’ leads to nowhere.

But then it’s not easy to stay true… or like my African American brothers would say it, to ‘keep it real’.

It’s not easy because unknowingly, we are expected to be like, to do like, to feel like everyone else.

It calls for greater understanding to want to think different, to want to be true to self.

That’s why I more than usual respect all those who dare to keep it real.

Because the truth is, if you don’t keep it real, if you don’t stand your ground… then you are a follower, a conformer.

And as I don’t like to be one, time and again I re-visit the following quotations just to maintain that vibe… the keeping it real vibe.

So here they are, the words of wisdom:

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”  ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Don’t think you’re on the right road just because it’s a well-beaten path.  ~ Unknown

Read, every day, something no one else is reading.  Think, every day, something no one else is thinking.  Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do.  It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity.  ~ Christopher Morley

The reward for conformity was that everyone liked you except yourself.  ~ Rita Mae Brown

A “Normal” person is the sort of person that might be designed by a committee. You know, “Each person puts in a pretty colour and it comes out gray.”  ~ Alan Sherman

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.  ~ Dr. Seuss

Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.  ~ Emerson

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities.  The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary.  ~ Einstein

In all affairs it’s a healthy thing now and then to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted.  ~ Bertrand Russell

Not all those who wander are lost.  ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

You have enemies?  Good.  That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.  ~ Winston Churchill

No matter what, we must keep it true.

We must be ourselves.

If we wish to stand out.

If we want not to climb other people’s ladders… and create our own, then we must keep it real.

Thanks for reading and have a… well, a-keep-it-real-day.
