We are on a journey.
Whether we know it or not, we are moving to some direction.
There is no standing still.
But then there is an important question we need to ask.
And that is,
‘In what direction are we actually moving’?
Well, there is no single answer to this.
You and I know that we have the freedom to choose where we want to go.
And as Oliver Wendell Holmes said,
‘The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving.’
Towards that direction there is energy we need to keep moving.
And it’s towards that direction that we define, clarify and install our life purpose.
That’s the direction in which we become of more value to others.
But then as we move to the direction of our choice, there are two things that we need to know.
Let’s just listen to Mr. Tremendous (His real name is Charlie T. (for Tremendous) Jones.
‘You are the same today as you’ll be in five years except for two things, the people you meet and the books you read.’
- the people we meet and
- the books we read
That is, if we ever look for ways to add value to ourselves and others as we take this journey, the people we meet and the books we read are the two important things that determine it all.
You and I know that ‘the birds of a feather flocks together’.
And did you read what Emerson said about a strange fellow with amazing skills?
…when we meet a stranger who is smart and with a rare skill set, then all we have to do is ask them what books they read.
The people we meet define where and how far we go.
The books we read help us grow from within, grow in a way that we can always be great assets to our communities.
Understanding how important this knowledge is, I’ve turned it into a theme. The theme that as we explore it, we find better ways to add the right people who adds to our success, and at the same time focus on the benefits of reading insightful and thoughtful books
So the posts in this theme, among other things, look at:
- Why the people we meet and the books we read are important to our success?
- What sort of books to read?
- What sort of people to meet?
- And how to meet these important people?
- How to develop strong relationships with others?
- How can we prepare ourselves to meet with the best and not deter them away from our lives?
- What new skills and knowledge do we need to develop so as to make the best of this theme?
In the end, I as well publish an ebook that includes other thoughts and practical ideas – all under the theme ‘the people we meet and the books we read’.
All the best as you continue to invest in your improvement.
