If you are on the path to a specific goal that you want to achieve whether in your career on in life in general, then this post may have a thought or two that are going to help you succeed in that regard.
We know that people who succeed in life do so because they know where they are going.
They don’t guess.
They don’t try.
They simply decide and commit.
These people have a specific end they want to reach. And usually, they want to reach that end in a specific time frame.
It’s because of this that they progress in life. It’s because of this that like a ship, they arrive from one port to another, both in their careers and in their lives outside their careers.
So it’s important to set both career and life goals.
Career goals help us find a more suitable path that we can use to make contribution in to the world.
And life goals help us find a way of putting our values, our principles about it all, at work.
Now, as an devoted reader of non-fiction books, especially those under business and self-help genre, I’ve come across so many ideas and practices that they are sold by the authors as the best for those who want to achieve their goals.
But if you are like me, grew up in an environment that doesn’t really push you to reaching out for the best in life, you end up getting to adulthood without enough habits to keep you grounded in the right path to success.
But then there comes a time when we want to move beyond what the past suggests.
And honestly, the past, no matter what it has been can be changed.
We all know that there are people, few in number though, who have managed to break cultural and belief barriers that lead most to mediocrity and misery.
These people, for some reason, found the key to success. But here is the thing.
That key to success, most of the time, is simply an idea, a thought, a different perspective, a new knowledge… So many times I’ve seen people who seemed to go through hell and all of a sudden, things turned around for them… from hell to heaven, simply by the power of a single idea.
People who complain, whine about everything, people who seem not to stick to anything, people who don’t know what the life of progress is like, usually have closed minds. They entertain countless ideas and thoughts that don’t serve them well.
But they never make time for self improvement.
They never make time for personal progress.
They never seem to get time to learn knew anything. And as a result, they stay where they are. They walk the same path year after year and expect that one day things will be different.
But you and I know better.
We know that all the habits of thought we hold at the moment have already served us. And how do we know?
Well, the simple answer is in the life we live right now.
Everything in it explains what and who we are inside.
That’s why it’s important to set new goals every now and then. Because new goals stretches us to new, better versions of us.
It’s so important to set new goals because in the end, it’s not about the goal, but it’s about what we become as a result of moving in the direction of that goal.
Now, when you set goals but never seem to go far enough to achieve them, then I have a new idea that I’d like to introduce it to you, if you let me.
This idea is going to help you see things differently.
You know, one of the major reasons that most people never achieve their goals is that they are fearful of the unknown.
Something deep down our beliefs tells us to stay in our comfort zone, to stay with what we are familiar with.
And so every time we try to make new paths, we only try it for a short while but in the long run we return to our comfort selves. Fear of the unknown is the reason for all these. But there’s something else.
The fear that stops most people from achieving, or even setting goals in the first place is deep rooted in our beliefs.
And these beliefs are logical, if you look at them from outwardly. They do their job super well in protecting us from anything that hurts. These beliefs say things like,
Do only what you know will give you the results you want.
If you have never done it before, it can be dangerous.
You know well where you are, so stay there if you want to stay alive.
The world is dangerous out there. Stay where you are… you are safer here.
Anyway, you are not good enough… and you know that, too… don’t you?
These are limiting beliefs.
None of them really help an individual move forward.
Whenever you want to do something that you know it has the potential of changing not only your life but so many other people’s lives, then remember these powerful words by Henry David Thoreau.
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavours to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.
Realising the importance of these words, I decided to put them on the wall in front of my desk.
The thing is, I don’t want to forget them.
They are so powerful… what do you think?
Whoever you are, from time to time you will certainly experience a phase in life that convinces you that you can’t do any better… Or that you aren’t good enough for an opportunity.
At times, it will be the loss of motivation for things that you know you should be doing.
But remembering that the more you continue confidently in the path towards your goals, towards your dreams the closer you get to the success story you want to live, I’m sure you will be able to pick yourself up renew your determination.
It’s like being so afraid of stepping our of your comfort zone when you come across these words by Thomas J. Watson, the former chairman and CEO of IBM,
If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate….
I’m sure if you are serious about where you want to go, or what you want to achieve, you will be ready to fail, even to be embarrassed.
But at the back of your mind you know that soon or later you will certainly achieve your goal.
So go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
It doesn’t matter if you are alone on the way… remember most people are prepared to pay the price. So keep moving.
And never stop or change cause until you have achieved that which you set forth to achieve… Because that what life is about.
All the best.
I hope your goal will help so many other people achieve their goals.
